N.Y. man can inherit husband's estate New York City-A New York appellate court ruled on February 24 that a gay man can inherit his late husband's estate.
J. Craig Leiby and H. Kenneth Ranftle were married in Canada. While same-sex marriages cannot be performed in New York, the state government recognizes ones performed in jurisdictions where they are legal. Then-Gov. David Paterson ordered state agencies to adopt the policy in 2008.
After Ranftle died in November of that year, his brother challenged the will, which had Leiby as the main beneficiary. Richard Ranftle said that the will violates the public policy of the state of New York.
The New York Supreme Court's Appellate Division, however, refuted Richard Ranftle's claim, saying that the issue of marriage recognition in New York was "long-settled."
Donald Trump says no to couples
Des Moines, Iowa Donald Trump, who is mulling a Republican presidential run in 2012, was blunt when a newspaper asked him about same-sex marriage.
"They should not be able to marry," said the real estate developer and reality show figure, who has been married three times.
When the Des Moines Register asked him about extending medical and civil benefits for same-sex couples, he said that he has not yet come up with a "fully formed" opinion.
"As of this moment, I would say no, and no," he said.
He told the Register that he would announce whether he will toss his hat in the ring after the completion of the current season of his television show, Celebrity Apprentice.

Man beaten to death outside bar
Phillipsburg, N.J.-Two men have been charged in the March 7 beating death of a gay man in an apparent robbery.
Scott Patronick, 47, was found unconscious just before 2 am with head injuries, and was pronounced dead an hour later. He had been punched and kicked in the head and stomach.
Joshua Dalrymple, 27, and Nicholas Yerian, 24, were arrested and charged with the murder. Patronick got paid $770 by his employer three hours earlier; neither the money nor his cell phone were found at the crime scene.
Yerian himself called 911 to report that a man was unconscious after having been jumped by three men. He pointed out Patronick to police when they arrived, but later could not describe the men who allegedly beat him.
Yerian and Dalrymple had been drinking at the same bar as Patronick, a local tavern not known to be gay. The duo were ejected from the bar for causing a disturbance, and the bartender later told them to move away from the outside of the bar, where they had continued to be boisterous, or she would call police.
Patronick left just before 1:40 am.
Both Yerian and Dalrymple are being held on $1 million bail, and face 30 years to life in prison if convicted.
Police said that there was no indication of an immediate anti-gay motive, although the possibility exists that Yerian and Dalrymple thought Patronick was an easy target because he was gay. ♡

hard to tell these days) but is so pleasing on the eyes, who can complain?
Dressed (which also features the definitely-gay Siman Doonan) plays on Wednesday, March 30 at 7:15 pm and Thursday, March 31 at 9 pm. The March 30 screening is at the Capitol Theater at West 65th and Detroit Avenue, with a pre-film reception at newly-opened XYZ the Tavern (on the opposite corner from the theater) at 5:30 pm. Little Sparrows
Next up is Little Sparrows, an Australian weepie about Susan, a matriarch who just discovered that her cancer has come back. She unveils this fact at Christmas dinner, which her three daughters are attending, including the youngest, Christine, a med student who just came out of the closet. Each of the daughters get their own chapter dealing with their lives and their relationship with their mother.
Little Sparrows will be eating up your Kleenex budget on Wednesday, March 30 at 6:45 pm and Friday, April 1 at 11:50 am.
PressPausePlay
For a complete change of pace, the next film is PressPausePlay, a documentary on the sea-change in art and culture caused by the digital revolution. With techno-artistic luminaries like Moby (who is bisexual) and Robyn (who makes music for gay people to dance to), this film has plenty of LGBT cred. It will play on Wednesday, March 30 at 9:40 pm, Saturday, April 2.at 9:15 am, and Sunday, April 3 at 4:15 pm.
Secrets of the Tribe
In the Amazon rainforest is a notorious tribe, the Yanomami. They are polymorphously perverse, run around naked and will have sex with just about anything, including holes in trees, according to anthropologists. The question is, are those anthropologists presenting the truth, or does their cultural upbringing blind them to what's really going on? And given the amount of abuse the Yanomami have suffered at the hands of outsiders, why don't they just shoot

These are just a few of the questions in Secrets of the Tribe, a documentary about the Yanomami and their tenuous relationship with the anthropologists who paint them as violent savages, while having sex with their boys and bringing their girls back to New Jersey.
Secrets of the Tribe will be shown on Wednesday, March 30 at 6:50 pm and Thursday, March 31 at 2:10 pm.
!Women Art Revolution
Lynn Hershman Leeson's !Women Art Revolution is an epic documentary examining 40 years of female artists, blending activism, art and changing social mores into one powerful potion. The film includes interviews with some of the biggest names in feminist art, including Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro, with archival footage that Hershman Leeson has been collecting for four decades, waiting for a timely moment to release it.
Taken as a duo with PressPausePlay, it could be an incredibly intriguing examination of the changing face of the art world, especially given Hershman Leeson's own artistic metamorphosis, and the emphasis in her work on new technologies and their impacts on life's interactions with consumerism, surveillance and living with a real world/virtual world dichotomy.
!Women Art Revolution plays on Sunday, March 27 at 7 pm and on Tuesday, March 29 at 4:45 pm.
You Think You're the Prettiest...
Finally, and probably most tangentially, there is You Think You're the Prettiest... (But You're the Sluttiest), a Chilean film by Che Sandoval. The movie follows the misadventures of perennially horny 19-year-old Javier, who simultaneously suffers from ennui and premature ejaculation. When his best friend hooks up with the girl Javier wants, he goes on a meandering journey around the city, where, among other colorful characters, he meets a cruiser who Javier pays to go away. That sounds like comedy gold!
You Think... will be shown on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26 at 4:50 pm and 10:45 pm respectively.

A 20th anniversary scream
Jack Bolton (Andrew Harpending) goes out for some primal scream therapy in the 20th anniversary release of Todd Haynes' first film, Poison, showing on March 19 and 20 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.
A trio of vignettes inspired by the stories of writer Jean Genet are the basis of this film, which was one of the most notable examples of the New Queer Cinema in the 1990s.
The first vignette, "Hero,” was done in the style of a television documentary. It follows Richie, an abused child, who kills his father then flies out the window and into the sky.
"Horror" follows a scientist who undergoes a Jekyll and Hyde transformation after isolating the essence of sexuality and drinking it. It's shot like a 1950s B movie. Finally, there is "Homo," a meditation on men behind bars, and how they grew from boys behind bars. Haynes combined a subdued palette for the prison with pastel hues for flashbacks to a juvenile detention facility.
Bonus points if you spot John Leguizamo's cameo. Hint: It's in “Homo.” The new 35mm print celebrating the film's 20th anniversary will be shown on March 19 at 9:15 pm and March 20 at 8:20 pm. Admission is $9, $6 for CIA students and staff and Cinematheque members. The Cinematheque is located inside the Cleveland Institute of Art, 11141 East Blvd in University Circle.
